The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) finally decided that Indonesia will host the upcoming Asian Games 2018 that will be held in Jakarta and Palembang.

Hence making this the second time Indonesia hosted the Asian Games, the first one was held in 1962 under President Soekarno Hatta. Originally scheduled in 2014 to be held in Vietnam, the country withdrew, as the country’s is undergoing a financial issue; thus Indonesia has a limited amount of 4 years to finish and provide facilities unlike usually, given 6 years to provide.

The Logo for the 18th Asian Games is a colorful circle taken from the shape of Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, according to Antara News, “It is the depicting the strengthening spirit of the Games, participated by multicultural nations shining for all the world to see.” The 18th Asian Games also introduces three mascots namely Bhin Bhin, Atung, and Kaka representing Strategy, Speed and Strength. Although intended for the Asian Games to have more sports available, the Asian Games Steering Committees have all agreed that the number of sports branches and events will unlikely to be changed in the future.  Therefore, The 18th Asian Games will have 40 sports branches with 462 events of which 32 are Olympic sports and 8 are non-Olympic sports attended by 45 countries.
